Jahangirnagar University in Bangladesh, one of the residential public universities at Savar, outskirts of Dhaka, the campus area is approximately 697.56 acres. The university was founded in 1970, started its activities entirely in 1971. The University of the Arts, Humanities, mathematical, and Physics, Social Sciences, Biology and Business Studies at the Faculty. Vice-Chancellor Dr. Farzana Islam is the public university’s first woman chancellor of the 2014 held the portfolio since March, before she was here as pro-vice-chancellor.
Jahangirnagar University History
JU Muslim University was established in 1970. In 1973 it was renamed the University of Jahangirnagar University. The name of the capital city of the Mughal era, was Jahangirnagar ( briefly”JU”). This is named after this historic city. The first batch of 150 students was introduced to this university.

Economics, geography, mathematics and statistics are its departments. January 1, 1971, the Governor of East Pakistan inaugurated this University. On September 4 , 1970 before he was appointed first vice-chancellor of the University of Mafizuddin was its professor. Later, there served as vice-chancellor of this university renowned poet Syed Ali Ahsan, Folk literature Majaharula Islam, author Zillur Siddiqui, AFM Kamal Uddin, Amirul Islam Chowdhury, Economist Abdul Bais, Alauddin Ahmed, Khondoker Mustahidur Rahman. This also was a teacher at the university, Professor Sunil Kumar Mukherjee, author Hayat Mamud, writer Humayun Azad, playwright Selim Al Deen, Poet Mohammad Rafique , Professor Mustafa Nurul Islam, Abu Rushd Matinauddin, Dilara Chowdhury, Historian Bazlur Rahman Khan. Professor Anu Mohammed, linguists Daniul Haq, Mohammad Sariphauddin, Computer scientist, archaeologist Sufi Mostafizur, Chemist Islam, AKM Sahanaoyaja, Historian, scientist at the Plasma Mamun, Manas Choudhury Story writer, Poet and short story writer Rayhan Rhine, Poet Barkat, Play writer Khaled Hossain Chowdhury and Anoyaraullaha.
During the liberation war in 1971, a host of students took part in the battle. After ending the war, the academic classes started in full swing. Gradually, the number continues to grow. The first Ethics and Business Administration was established in the university. The Archaeology Department of the university added to the campus. At the beginning of next year, two of the Faculty of Arts and Humanities Faculty of the journey, but these are open. The number of Faculty reached to five. It is the smallest of the Autonomous University of the student’s lovable one. However, a significant role in national and internal movement of university students. During autocratic rule in the 1990, students took part in the mass movement against the Ershad’s autocratic rule. Chattra League leader charged with rape in 1998, Manik and his companions were driven out at the face of the students’ movement. Students will return in a coup on August of 1999, the accused was expelled again. The movement in South Asia was known as the largest anti-sexual harassment. After the 2005, 2006, 2008 and 2010 are anti-sexual harassment against four teachers from the University. In addition, the student movement started again against the increase tuition fees, dining charges, and demanding to establish democratic rights, water supply, and financial transparency.
However, academic activities of the university especially among the teachers and students are scaling day by day. This University is extremely rich in basic science subjects. The Wari and the Department of Archaeology excavation bates bare, domestic drama practicing is the contribution of Drama Division, Department of Anthropology, leading to the pursuit of academic anthropology is well known. The history of the “Clean”, the Department of Anthropology “Anthropology magazine”, Bengali the “Letter of language and literature”, the English department, “harvest”, visit the “kapula” with 6 different production departments in the study has a significant signature.

On December 17, Journalism and Media Studies Department of the Arts and Humanities Faculty started. The first President (Acting), served as Dean of the Faculty of Arts and Humanities, Professor Asit Pal died. Four lecturers with Amina Islam, Bright Kumar Mandal, Rakib Ahmed, Sheikh Adnan Fahad and breathed new life section. On December 2001, the first class of 66 students were in the first year of the department. The department currently has two hundred students in the session. In addition, there are three office assistants. Dean of the Faculty of Arts and Humanities, Professor Asit Baran Pal as an ex-officio Chairman of the Department, but later a professor of the Department of Drama and Dramatics Squeeze Rahman, President (acting) was given the responsibility.
